Today is Singapore Nurses’ Day.

By now, we all know what a tough job our hospital-based nurses do, especially those at the forefront of our fight against the pandemic. But community nurses, who go from home to home to provide long-term care for their patients, are just as deserving of our gratitude.

Community nurses face their own set of challenges, as this photo story from The Straits Times shows. They not only look after their patients’ medical needs, but also help with daily activities like toileting and taking walks. Often, they find themselves providing emotional support too, as they have become a welcome presence in their patients’ lives.

Whether you work in a hospital or go from home to home, nursing is a noble calling. You give far more of yourselves than you receive. Singaporeans are grateful for the work you do all year-round, and not only today. Thank you for all you do for others! – LHL
